Adrienne Smith, Your LGBTQ Immigration Lawyer
Adrienne Smith is the founding lawyer of Smith Immigration Law, a Canadian Immigration law firm. Adrienne is an award-winning LGBTQ immigration lawyer and adjunct professor with Queen’s Law.
Adrienne has appeared as an expert before Canada’s House of Commons Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration and the Supreme Court of Canada. Adrienne regularly appears before the Federal Court and Immigration and Refugee Board in litigation matters.
Adrienne prides herself on finding creative solutions for her clients in all types of immigration matters including sponsorship applications and appeals, refugee claims and appeals, Federal Court applications, humanitarian and compassionate applications, work permits, study and visitor visas, and medical and criminal inadmissibility issues.
She is a former Instructor with Toronto Metropolitan University and the University of British Columbia’s Continuing Education Program and has been invited to speak as a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law and York University’s Centre for Refugee Studies. She has co-authored a textbook on Family Class Sponsorship.
Adrienne has a law degree (J.D.) from the University of Ottawa, Master of Arts (M.A.) in Immigration and Settlement Studies from Ryerson University and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from McGill University. She is the recipient of the Public Interest Law Fellowship in National Security Law. Prior to becoming a lawyer, she previously served as a Policy Advisor at Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
She has been sought out for her expertise in relation to immigration stories, and has been interviewed or cited by international and Canadian media, including: BBC World News, The Guardian, Fox News, Global News, CBC, Toronto Life, and the Toronto Star.
Adrienne is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, Ontario Bar Association, Canadian Bar Association, and Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers.
